Thread Starter | Thoughts on different reel to reel tapes...
I just bought a Tascam msr-8 1/2" reel to reel 8 track machine. I will be mainly using it to track drums, from there going into pro tools, then mixing back down to 2 tracks on the tape machine. I wanted to see if any one has advice on the different types of tape out there and their different characteristics. Im not going to ask wht the "best" tape is, as that is highly subjective, just looking for advice on quality and sonic characteristics Is it best to stick with new tape, like rpg, or NOS reels, or is it okay to buy one pass reels (or lightly used, maybe a few passes) if its tape that has a good reputation, like Ampex 499, for example. any advice woulr be highly appreciated, thanks Mark |
