API 2520 Op-Amp Issues

Well it looks like my 7600 need a new 2520 .
Mine 7600 is still under warranty so I know API will take care of it .
This is the third one that has gone on me in the last 2 years .
The ones that have gone are from another 7600 and my 2500 .
My system is basically a DSM 16
Im looking for a replacement that is more reliable .
I love the way my API system sounds but at this rate I need to fine something that not only sounds killer but also will be more reliable .
I read up one some of the replacements out there .
Just wondering if any of you guys have had this same issue and what replacement you suggest ?

Get these. Scott Liebers Labs - Op Amps and Outboard Gear.

I've had mine for years with no problems and I have many friends who have them as well. I actually have a friend who is putting a bunch in his new 1608 as well. They sound great and don't burn out.

I was checking those out . Im thinking about getting the red dots .
Have any of you guys tried the red dots in modern APi gear ?
Im thinking its a good choice for the 7600's I have.

Yep, I've put them in a number of new pres and EQ's. They sound amazing. I highly recommend the Red Dots specially in the pre! Blue Dots are great for summing buss and EQ.

Buy one. You will end up wanting to buy a lot more of them. That's what I did!

I did a good bit of work a few years ago in a studio that had bought a Legacy Plus and waited a year or two to put it into service. I was basically the first person to do any real work on it and it blew a bunch of 2520s in those first few weeks. According to API, that was something fairly common with newer consoles for some reason and they were really cool about replacing them. I've bought several pieces of API gear and had no problems with the 2520s in them, but I definitely saw a bunch of them go in this console.

I know API will replace the one thats shot.
My issue is reliability . If the newer 2520s wont last . I need to get something else so Im looking into my options .
There seem to be a few really good ones out there.
I do love the sound of API gear I have.
I wish the 2520s would last more then a few years.
Ive had one go in each 7600 and in my 2500 . The last one was 6 months ago
Its time to upgrade !!

I also have a pair of '74 550As. A few years ago, one of the 2520s went and I sent both units to Brent Averill for a good going-over. Avedis was working on his opamps at the time and put a couple of his prototypes in both units and I'm extremely happy with them. It's the same type of sound and an excellent replacement.
