Countryman 968A Phase Shifter-INFO NEEDED

Hi all. I'm new to slutzworld.

I have a Countryman 968A Phase Shifter, given to me by a friend who has had it sitting around his garage gathering dust for some time thumbsup

I've googled the model number but haven't been able to find any info on it.

I want to restore it and put it to use! any info about this unit would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Timmy soundwalker

if you leave out the model number and just google countryman phase shifter, you'll find some studios that have them. Maybe someone can help you out? Looks like a cool piece though!

Thanks for the input guys.

I have previously tried contacting Countryman but received no reply. but I will keep trying.

So far it looks like the unit I have is modified, it has an extra pot between the control sensitivity and Delay Bias.

It looks like this will take two large 9V batteries. I am just worried about putting power into it and blowing something up. But hey I'm willing to give it a go. There is a site that I found mode zero - phase shifter phaser flanger chorus delay vintage effects photos mp3 demos

so this guy Mike Irwin has previously restored a 968 version. I'm going to try and hunt him down lol

I've still got one of these, although mine's the earlier 968 model. There's not a great deal to know: two 9 volt PP9-type batteries for the power, or an optional mains PSU as the batteries go flat pretty quickly and are expensive to replace. There was a separate envelope generator that plugged into the control input if you didn't want to use the envelope trigger function; the control sensitivity determined at what point the internal envelope trigger would trip and that's about it. Combining the direct and delayed signal gives you the nice whooshing effect, or you could feed the delayed signal to a separate channel on the desk and pan direct and delayed hard left and right for an interesting pseudo-stereo effect with the image moving around in a rather peculiar way.

Mine has a history in that it was a demo unit from Helios Electronics, who were the UK distributors, when the auditors had a fire-sale to get what they could from all the bits left when the company went bust.

Probably the most famous blanket usage was on the George Chkiantz-recorded/Brian Jones-produced album "The Pipes Of Pan at JouJouka" which was issued in 1971.

It's a very subtle analog effect, if used sparingly, but can pall very quickly if overused.

Providing the battery connections are still good, there's not a lot to go wrong, so it should still work. I know mine does.

Have fun with it.

Regards,

John

Forgive my intrusion. I just wanted to make everyone aware that I am currently selling my pair of Countryman 968 Phase Shifters on E-Bay with the original Triangle Wave Oscillators. These units are in great original condition, and are set-up for 220 Volts as I originally purchased them.

If anyone interested, the auction will run for 7 days, starting on February 4, 2012.
