amp for ns-10 studio

hi all !
anyone know what amp would be a good & cost effective amp
for ns-10's ?? i have always liked them on a bryston 4B - but i just don't
want to spend that much right now. any advice ??
also , i think someone here ( maybe jules ) said that after years
of using genelec 1031a's , that they have switched to adam's .
which model and how are they better ???
thanks all !!!

What constitutes cost effective?

With NS10's the more quality power the better the sound.

Also the older NS10's sound different with certain amps than the the studio version.

I can't speak on the ADAM's because i don't use them(i have my own preference for nearfield monioring/mixing).

Thrill is right about powering NS-10's... as much as i love and still rely on them they are shit speakers so u gota give them the maximum amount of 'quality' juice that you can afford. My set is powered by a 150 watt locally handmade bipolar power amp.. tre` bien! The better the amp the better chance it will have of trying to reproduce half useable bass frequencies.

Brystons work fine!!!! .... i only wish i could justify sucha cool amp on such shit speakers.... when i would dearly love to power a set of PMC's with a kik ass amp like that.

Hey Wiggy,

Its funny but i've always considered Brystons as cost effective power amps.

But this is compared to Krell,Mark Levinson,Boulder,Threshold and others.

In the audiophile circles they are not considered as highly.

You can actually find them cheap. An old 4B(still under warranty probably) will be around $600 used. A 2B maybe $350.

They still are cost effective if you consider that the newer 4B SST and 14B SST are up there with the best (Krell and Levinson included) at a fraction of the price! The Haflers are really good for the money. PMC rules! (until I can afford a pair of Eggleston.....if I win the lottery......which is......never going to happen grudge

Bryston's are more popular in recording studios than anywhere else.

I think the fact they have XLR's makes them attractive to studios.

The new SST's are actually pretty good.

I am trying a 4BSST on my Dunlavy SM1 studio monitors and i am loving it.

They've come a long way.

JBL 6260

I have been using a JBL 6260 power amp with my NS-10's. It sounds good and the amp did not cost an whole lot. It is heavy which was always a good sign in a power amp. I like the sound. You might want to give it a try.

A big **** off Crown bipolar does the trick..like lotsa wats and they sing.. not as nice as Brystons however but way cheaper. Older crowns are better IMHO more juice etc.

Thrill u got a cheap bryston for me?..lol
