| Care to explain a bit more what he does differently? I find huskies very interesting, but have so far come closer to only two specimens. One was a huge one in California. Most beautiful dog I´ve ever seen. Must have been in the late seventies. His owner was something like a popstar. I remember his white castle on a little hill and the studio in the basement, forgot his name though. ( Don´t know how huskies enjoy it in warm countries, however ) and the other one over here. The latter one belonged to a girl and was of unbelievably perfect behaviour. She wouldn´t need to say "sit" or "come" or whatever. They seemed to communicate just with the eyes. He would never get in they way and was very cool, but always had her guarded meticulously. I assume huskies to be abit wolf-like in that they usually wouldn´t like strangers stroking them. Is that correct? Ruphus

In contrast to her aggressiveness and intensity outdoors, indoors she's delicate and sensitive to an equal extreme. If anybody ever exchanges angry words she hides in a far corner of the house. She practically tiptoes around inside... kind of hyper-sensitive. We have hardwood floors, antique furniture, instruments on stands... no worries at all about bumping anything or even stepping on a mic cable. Regarding humans, she's friendly to anyone... not protective at all (but there's not been a situation where she's needed to be so she's had no occasion to). She likes to be nearby but doesn't really like to be patted or cuddled... follows me around, typically laying a few feet away. Tim

| Hey Tim, thanks for explaining! Your discription reminds me a lot of Jack London´s "Call Of The Wild". What a story! ( Eventhough it´s not about a husky per se.) You mention Tasha´s silence. That´s what I thought to notice about huskies too. They are so silent. I guess the original environment of huskies over tenthousands of years has been very silent too. Just a few orders from the sledge driver maybe, the wind and always attention to the landscape. Besides, I think the Inuits treated huskies like raw objects, no pleasant life most of the times ... Oh, and another little point. It´s being said that frozen mammoths weren´t all that rare out there. The Inuits used their tusks just like those of lion seal and they used the mammoths meat as depots to feed their huskies. Come to think of it, that meat was still to be eaten after tenth of thousands of years. I have seen a couple of times how dogs tear cats into pieces and the thought turnes me off quite some. Do you think Tasha would still be hunting if you had her grown up with other animals like rabbits or cats? Ruphus |

Hey, I never get to brag about her so.... other things that are great about her are that there's no dog smell - breath or fur - and that she's always happy, kind of like a kid on Christmas morning. It seems the worse the weather, the more she's excited about taking me outside, so she's uplifting to be around on dark winter days. Her calmness indoors though is dependent on getting a lot of exercise, and we run her a few miles each day. I imagine she might have behavior problems without that. She's 10 yrs old now... she was 5 in this pic. Tim

What a beauty she is on that pic. Wow, man! I think Huskies and tousled, wolf-looking German shepperds to be the most beautiful and natural looking dogs of all. But taste differs a lot obviously. Looking around what breeders have produced has me truely puzzled whether taste can be sadism in the same time. Dogs with almost no fur, dogs with hair before their eyes, dogs who have almost no eyes at all, dogs who´s belly drags along the floor, dogs with human-like teeth, dogs skinny like shotgun mics, dogs that shit and pee everywhere genetically ( pugs ), and all of the them with the body-consciousness of a wolf ( which is why the tiny are so bold and often aggressive, for they can´t accept their own size ). And when it´s all not enough yet they take the puppies and cut their ears and tails off with scissors. Sorry for the side rant, but it came to my mind and I think it´s pretty crap of what can be taste. Besides another curiousity. Guess which race has been found to have preserved mentality closest to wolf? It´s like satire, but it´s out of all the poodles. Crazy, innit? Ruphus

| Interesting, Tim, thanks a lot. Sounds plausible. Less dirt on the skin needing less oil to move it away. For the breath odor ... Can it possibly be that you feed her with decent food that you prepair yourself? Like fresh meat etc.? I´m asking, because bad breath often has to do with tartar. And tartar knowingly encreases a lot by consumption of industrial food which again consists of useless waste like bones, skins, hair and connective tissue that otherwise would have to be thrown away. That crap get´s pre-dissolved with hydrochloric acid to make it somewhat digestible at all and the result makes trash that ain´t good for much more than immitating sustenance while sticking to the teeth pretty well. ( In the same time the saying that dry food would help removing / preventing tartar is an industrial myth. It actually only worsens the case.) I learned this just weeks ago. The vet anesthetized my cat to remove all the tartar thoroughly and adviced me to give him raw meat instead and just put the meat into the freezer before to prevent worms. Now, I can´t afford to feed exclusively meat, but started to give him about 1/3 of fine raw meat to replace some of the can food. And it seems to do him so good that I feel bad to have given him that useless waste exclusively for so many years before. As I can see on the pic Tasha has one thing in common with my Main Coon cat. Both have hair under the palms to achieve more surface when running on snow like with snow shoes. These fellas wouldn´t care much about - 15° or something. Ruphus |

| I'm sure Tasha would love the raw meat idea, and she'd prefer it frozen no doubt. But she's on a low fat dry food diet because of her "senior" status, - . As far as snow, cold temps and comfort, she's happiest when it's well below freezing... probably around 0 F (-17 C) is the ideal temp zone. She loves to curl up and sleep in the snow. The paws are adapted for snow travel, with webs between toes, scaly surface to the pads like cross country skis, and the fur on the bottoms of the feet - which we trim because it gets long but it's like nylon cord - hard to cut. If she's running and it's above freezing she'll be panting pretty hard. But she handles hot temps surprisingly well, just needs a lot of water. Is there a pic of your cat, Main Coon, earlier in the thread? I'll have to search back. Tim |

| Funny Pic, Tim! Yep, there are pictures of Igor on the pages before. He looks just like average long hair cats do, at least seen on the fly. from there I can roughly understand how cats appear all the same for many people for their outer appearance won´t tell much, the less for missing mimic musculature. In the same time as we all know kitten are individual as can get. And Mr. Igor certainly is one of a kind. Very sensitive and considering. I´m currently sleeping in the studio room. For there is exhaust gas leaking into my bedroom ( have been inhaling it since four years now until I found out what and where, and that while paying rent 72% over average level. My gig at the vet at 2:00 am lately was definitly due to intoxication. - growling, winking, smacking - The vet wouldn´t know how to analyze about gas, but took the chance to make general check up etc. ) That means that Igor is at the gear without control during the night. How easily could he scratch my speakers membrane ( the more as he finds them rather interesting ), it must be too attractive to stick your claw through something so tensioned, but he won´t, because he knows that I wouldn´t like him treating it. There are so many things a cat might like to do that he passes on just for me, without me needing to make a big deal of "explaining" it to him. I feel bad for people who never experienced about friendship to animals. It takes you further in comprehension and empathy, and humans without teachers like that are naturally missing essentials behind the fence. Ruphus |

Timothy, Tasha looks almost exactly like my male Clown. I called my wife into the room to show here the picture and she said "Its Clown!" What food are you using? Both of my Huskies have bad breath, likely due to tartar. Huskies are very friendly. Mine both (Like Tasha) have very defined and unique personalities.

We have two large collies and now my girlfriends brothers dog living with us for a few months. My girl and I are way into our dogs and we have done a whole lot of reading on how to take care of them. If your dog has bad breath, start giving them chew toys or rawhides. It is really really good for their teeth and gums (they clean their teeth on bones in the wild) and it has the added benefit of making their breath MUCH better. Good for the dog and good for you!! ![]() thumbsup Also some bad breath can come from digestion problems. Two strong recommendations for you. Every other day give your dogs a table spoon of unsweetened plain yogurt, it helps with digestion and is very good for them. Dogs in the wild end up eating grass with their meat but in a home setting they don't get as much so the yogurt helps to supplement the digestive enzymes in their gut. Secondly ever non-yogurt day give them a table spoon of salfower seed oil. It helps with their coat and it helps to keep them from getting bound up. These three things above have really improved the heath of our pups!! I do love them so….. More photos!!!! ![]()

| I finally found a pic of my kitties former fav place in the studio. The Wackie's not setup at the moment, but when it is, her ass loves the power supply in a big way. Many a day I'd come in and turn on a mix and find she'd stretched and moved all of the trim pots all over and place. I'd jump five feet every time it happened... |

Yes pets in my opinion have a calming effect. That's why you will see them sometimes in doctors offices. One thing some people do is put fish tanks in the offices for a calming effect. Which is an idea for those of you wary of having furry pets around for the potential allergen sensitive client or primadonna. Otherwise you'll have to vacuum more unless your pet doesn't shed much or has little to no hair (i.e. miniature shnauzers, chihauhas, etc, etc.) Even with those breeds I would still vacuum more often (I'm quite wary around millions of dollars of equipment).
