Thread Starter | yet ANOTHER reamp thread! (no seriously tho, help plz)
i've read thru so many of these now; could still use some help tho, if anyone would be so kind i am not a guitar player, but in researching impedance matching, i'm beginning to wonder if there's not a whole lot i dont have to worry about just bekuz my chain will never see a mic signal. i have a metasonix kv100. it is an unbalanced device. i am also hoping to get a memory man deluxe. my budget dictates that for now my sound source is my computer (unless i begin with vinyl samples going thru an allen & heath xone 62. the 62 gets used in my production chain as well as for DJing, for the VCFs; i figure it's pretty much the same thing as using a VF-1 from the same company). interface = duet, and there is also an art pro vLa II w/ mullards i'd really like to stay balanced as much as i can (maybe that's "wrong" of me to think in and of itself, i dunno) so it would seem i have some reamping/DI-ing to do if i want to use the assblaster or the memory man... but thats the thing, i still dont know!! i dont think i've ever come across an issue in recording about which i still felt so in the dark about what i should do after doing sooooooooooo much research, kuz as you'll read, the financial spectrum of the products i'm considering is relatively vast. if there's one thing that i have grasped thru my research, it's that incorrectly doing this can be downright dangerous. the dark, dark things i would do if i plugged in my KV for the first time and destroyed it and went deaf... thats why i HAVE to get this right tho, if it wasnt potentially destructive to do it incorrectly i would just experiment myself, but i dont feel i can risk that. i dont mean to be the guy who starts the millionth reamp thread, but if anyone could help me out i'd really appreciate it, i have to get this right, dont got the kind of pockets where it's no biggie if i blow my highly-coveted metasonix, the most exciting and sonically sexy piece of gear i've ever owned... all things considered - signal preservation, tone/timbre/color, build, price, practicality, everything - and also taking into account that my chain will not be seeing (at least not until a time far enough away that it's barely worth considering now) any amps or mics (my recording environment is AWFUL anyway, with little that can be done about it), and for the most part will be dealing with sounds that originate from the digital realm, why should i and shouldnt i spend: 1) $600 on a Little Labs multi-z PIP 2) $350 - $500 on a reamp box and a DI box (and i'm sure another one of each eventually) 3) >$100 on whirlwind little IMPs and other impedance adapters 4) $00.00 and just go -10 thru everything, from the duet back into it (all aforementioned gear has the appropriate ins/outs, the assblaster and any pedals i get are the only items that have to work unbalanced) 5) live on ramen by candlelight for the next 3 months and drop $1800 on a millennia td-1 (far from realistic really, i dont have a budget that accommodates 4-digit buys yet... and again, i wont be micing; still tho, millennia color..) any help would be greatly appreciated, plz bear with me thru such a tired topic one last time (yeah right). thanks so much! ps - if it makes any diff in terms of the products' sonic coloration, i'm making 75% dnb 25% triphop |
