Talkback Set Up Options?!

Hi Guys,

This is my first post on this site so break me in gently

I'm getting fed up of shouting into my live room to make contact with the artist and
was wondering about cheap, cost effective ways of incorporating a Talk Back Mic into
my system.

Any suggestions would be awesome!

Thanks!

(Units I'm already aware of - Mackie Big Nob, Central Station and the other presonus
monitoring unit).

Mic in the ceiling of recording room -> loudspeaker in control room (not into console).
Mic in the ceiling of control room -> loudspeaker in the recording room.
On/Off button (of the whole thing) and possibly volume control near the console.

I love that solution, always works.

Just get an SSL 9000k. They're usually only used for talkback monitor control anymore anyway.

Plus they look cool.

Well, it really depends on what you're using for your cue system. How are your artists hearing themselves, each other, and the backing tracks?

Your talkback apparatus is merely a way to get your voice into that system (and, ideally, dim your control room monitors concurrently, to avoid feedback).

What are you using for a cue system currently? That will help us help you.

have a room mic on a free channel always record armed.

have a "control room" mic near your desk that feeds into the artists headphone mix.

solved.

also, check out masseys "talkback"plug in, its free

(im assuming your using PT, but if not, im certian the setup is nearly the same elswhere)

Seems like an option I can already do and will not cost anything! Will test it out in the
near future. I used to use this technique when I was back in 'Portable Studio' phase!
(Good olde Zoom MRS1044)

And I wish the SSL 9000K Solution was possible

Haha! Thanks for all the suggestions.
