Any users of the (now-discontinued) UA 2108 out there?

I love what it does for drums, I just wish it had the option of 5dB less gain. I'm tracking a record right now and I really love this thing, but it's always just a little bit too hot. Rock bands love the "badassness" of it until it comes time to pay the piper at mix time and every kick drum hit is homogenized w/ saturation.

Does anyone know how to mod this kind of thing? I'm not a mechanical guy at all and I know nothing about circuit design, I just know what I like to hear.

Not too sure on that one, Iam not much of an electronics wizard but maybe there is some kind of attenuator you could buy. How hot do you run the input? Mine are usually riding at about 40 - 45, but I like a bit of grit. I have 2 and use them mostly on drums as well, and I agree, they are totally bad ass and very underrated and really want to buy another when cash permits.

Well,
Maybe the more techy guys will allude to this, but if you want to make it permenant, you can throw a resistor across the 2 and 3 pins of the output.

Now, what value of resistor would decrease the output by 5 dB I don't know. Again, maybe the more techy guys will chime in.

You should post this on the geekslutz forum.
