| Lives for gear | looking for a NYC based engineer to come onboard to complete recording Hi all- just floating this out there. We've got a studio to ourselves in the East Village, great control room and excellent sounding live room, and 24 hours a day access to both. We're in the midst of tracking our first full-length release, with our bassist acting as the first chair engineer. We're using a Crane Song Spider as the heart of our rig, with Pendulum, Great River, and Wunder gear as supplimentary outboard. The music is engaging, the musicians involved are top notch players, and the tracks we've been getting down sound phenomenal. The other lead singer of the band and myself are interested in bringing another engineer on board so that we can work during hours that our bassist is unavailable (he is reluctant to take off from his day job, though it would improve the ease of completing this record tremendously). We'd also like to free him up to be able to think more about his bass playing, and less about controlling the technical aspects of our sessions. If you are a NYC based engineer with great ears, please get in touch with me so we can talk more about this. Having somebody come on board in this capacity would be a luxury for us- we are on course to finish the record in a timely fashion with great sounds, but as the work-a-holics we are, we just figured we'd see if any GS guys would be interested. |

| Hi there Ben. I've been following the news you have posted periodically re: the band. Congratulations. A quick question. What does the bassist/engineer think of this idea? Even if he says it's cool; do you really believe he is OK with somebody else developing sounds that effect the whole or having influence on the other members re: which of two great sounds on your guitar to choose? |

| One with big hooves | I sent a PM along, but I'm wondering what the style & genre of music is. Do you have any clips or rough mixes you could put out?

Dolo, Thanks for the shout out but i am doing strictly mixing these days. I have one live "radio rock" tracking/production project coming in Nov and that will meet my tracking quota for the year( i try to do at least one a year these days). Actually i thought about you. (Dolo is one of the best tracking engineers that i know of period). | |

| Lives for gear | Wow, we didn't expect to get so many great responses, both in this thread and also by PM. Just goes to show again how Gearslutz is probably the best community on the web for connecting creative music people- so thank you, everybody, for your recommendations. As the dust settled from today's day of work at the 'office', it became pretty readily clear to everyone that we were going to just have to truck ahead with our current lineup in the studio (aka. no one but us band-chickens and occasionaly a great guy by the name of Joel who posts here and who we met through other band related stuff) for the sake of consistancy, preserving the band vibe, and also for some of the reasons Mike O wisely mentions. We've got a bit of a time crunch with this record, trying to get the whole package done in well under a month from now, so the extra hands/ears would have definitely made a difference in terms of productivity. But after the mind-numbingly great sounding rock song we got in the can today, we're very happy about where we're at and confident that we can accomplish even our lofty goals within the timeframe of this record. Our engineer/bassist really does have an iron grip on the crafting of sound for this album and today we learned just how glorious that sound is. While it'd be especially fun to shack up with a fellow Gearslut for this record, ultimately, bringing someone else on board after the momentum has really started to swing seems like it may be tempting the hands of fate a bit. So, thanks again for all of the interest guys. It means so much. -Ben arizonatheband.com PS. We will be posting video and pics from the studio very soon :-) And damn if these pics/clips won't be VERY slutty. (Gearslutty that is, the only chick who ever hangs out with us in the studio is the band dog Guinevere, and as hot as she is, she just doesn't put out!) |

| One with big hooves | That is some mad cool music you have there. It reminds me a bit of Wilco's "Yankee Foxtrot" which is such a great record...real music with texture and edges. But there's a heavier element to your material, really unique stuff!
