Can AES/EBU cables be used as mic cables?

I was in a hurry today when buying cables and grabbed what I believed to be normal xlr-xlr mic cables. It turned out to be 110 ohm AES/EBU cables.

Unfortunately I didn't notice until after I had ripped open all the packaging so there is no chance for a refund. And I have absoulutely no need for AES/EBU cables, unless they can be used as mic cables that is.

So can they?

They(Apogee) have more top end. Used them on overhead mics, acoustic guitar and ribbon mics with great results.

Absolutely. I have made 'microphone' XLR cables that I have used for AES/EBU and never once was there an issue, and I have swapped pre-made XLRs for AES/EBU as well.

Fare the well.

Be aware when doing this, some companies (certain Mogami included) do not have sheilds on their AES cable.

Yes, it's better than standard XLR cable, for mics and audio. I make my own with Mogami 3080 - brilliant.
