best all-purpose headphones <$40

I couldn't find a thread that covered this. These will be for working out and running as well as reference checks for my mixes. I would like them to be very clean. I do a lot of analysis of other artists' songs while I listen to music, and I want these to help me build my audio 'intuition'. Obviously, huge cans look ridiculous while working out, so something that is modest in size would be nice.

...and $40 is definitely the high end.

Looks like a good pair. But very large. Any other opinions?

I was looking at the Koss Porta-Pros. I know they're not really monitoring headphones, but it doesn't seem like low-profile monitoring headphones exist for cheap.

Audio Technica M30. I got a 6 pack for 150.00 before a session where we needed a lot of cans....I figured we would never use them after that session.

Well.....everyone LOVES them. Kind of like the Sonys without the fizzy top. And they have outlasted a lot of other cans. They are light and fit nicely....etc.
