Sebatron VMP-4000e rack mounting problem

Alright, I just picked up one of these and I'm a little ticked to say the least. I'd like to rack this unit (imagine that!) but there is one problem. The screws on the bottom of the unit that I assume are used to secure the transformer and circuit boards to the chassis are so big that I cannot mount anything under it without moving a whole rack space down. Did they really expect that no one would rack this thing? This seems like a huge design flaw. Honestly, the screw heads are nearly a quarter inch high! I guess I could remove them and put in some countersunk screws but I'm not sure if I could as the steel the chassis is constructed of seems quite thin. Has this happened to anyone else or do I have some special stand-alone version?

The screws are indeed large. This hasn't been a problem as I never mount mine without a space above & below. This helps to keep it cool.. the tubes generate quite a bit of heat.

I have a vent space above the unit. I can't really afford to take up 4 whole rack spaces to keep this unit cool. It's mainly for mobile recording.

Same here. I leave a 1/2 rack space below. It's annoying, but with mine it's not the screws--the case itself extends too far beneath the mounting holes to fit without leaving some space. I had the same trouble with an Apogee AD16, and it's hard to believe it's an accident--more likely it's a way to ENFORCE a ventilation zone . . .

In that case they shouldn't be able to market it as a 2U preamp. tutt

It sounds like you have an earlier model. I have two Sebatrons and they fit into a 2U rack space fine.
I have seen earlier ones that need more space on top and bottom.

Did you buy yours new or second hand/used ?
