API 512s or 3124?

i am building up gear for our new studio, slowly but surely.

what do you all think, should i go with a lunchbox full of 512s or get a 3124?

i am looking towards the 512s because i like the modular idea, plus i can cram 6 of em in a lunchbox, and i have actually heard these. i have not heard the 3124. i mean, they are basically the same, right? both use the 2520 op-amp.

i am also considering going the tonelux route.

this is what i am working with:

tlm103
couple 57s and 58s
nightpro preQ3 stereo pre
avalon 747
audio arts 1200 compressor
symetrix 525
digi 002r
g5 2x2.0 with 2 gigs RAM

i am probably gonna get the rosetta 800 so i can upgrade to PT HD in a few months when i get some flow at the studio. if not the rosetta, something along those lines that i can use with PT.

obviously will be getting some mics, the cast of usual suspects and some others i will be buying from a studio closing down.


i would like to get a board but dont have that kind of flow right now. maybe next year.
