Alexi,
I think I can provide some insight to the gear in Studio B. I'm currently here at Blacklodge as an engineer. The gear in the racks doesn't look like the pictures anymore. There's a fair number of items that weren't around when those pictures were taken. The pres selection includes, vintech x73i's, UA 4110, and mackies. We have an 1176, manley ELOP, Joemeek channel strip and HHB channel strip. Some nice gear considering the price of the room. It's rare when that room isn't booked.

hope this helps,
Brandon

hey there,

awesome........now just tell me how in the world did you guys (whoever produced it)
get that huuuuuge snare drum sound on the last Appleseed record ......c'mon man pleease............any verb used on the snare?

cheers

ps: you guys really dig the vintech "1073" type channels......any comments......
are you really using the behringer composer.......the black-lodge equipment list says you've got 2 of them in the racks.

i CUT SOME STUFF THERE A FEW MONTHS AGO, cut some demo stuff for Clown from slipknot TURNED OUT PRETTY GOOD, WE USED THE VINTECHS ON BASS AND GTR'S (OOPS cap lok sorry) we did not use the b-words. Although I was assured that they were actually pretty decent units (Andy Sneap uses them too, or at least has them listed) I liked the room and the block rate we got was sweet.
The A room is really cool, I'd like to work out there sometime. The guys who run the place are all pretty cool too (hello Brandon)

All the Appleseed Cast stuff was done by Ed Rose. I wasn't here for that recording, but I would imagine the drum sound you heard had a lot of room sound in it. The A room has a great live room for drum sounds. Put a pair of 4038's in the room, and it's hard to go wrong. The Behringer stuff isn't hooked up anymore. Like I said before, the B room has gone through a huge makeover, so the racks look nothing like they did in those pictures. We have new website going up soon, which will itemize each room and its gear.

Everyone seems to like the Vintech stuff a lot. We have a 473 and (4) x73's in the A room and (2) x73i's in the B room.

hope this helps,
Brandon

My old band mixed our record there back when it was red house. I believe I actually saw Ed use the composer but he was in a bad mood so I didnt dare ask.

Yeah. Odd thing was that the snare ended up sounding like ed tracked it. He wouldn't tell me what happened to it. Maybe some sound replacing going on? I dunno.

I personally haven't seen anyone at the sample replace anything. Both rooms sound pretty good and the artists seem to like how the natural drums sound in the room.

Yeah man, I didnt suspect it at the time but I thought the same thing after listening to it now. I do have the sessions, I should probably open them up and look.

Hey Jason, dont you remember that drummer for the estoteric talking about him getting sample replaced too? Maybe he's an exception since he played with live triggers anyways.
