Hanging out in Atlanta this week

Feel free to move this thread if it's in the wrong forum...

I'm in Atlanta until Saturday and was just wondering if what places I should check out while I'm here. I know of Southern Tracks, Tree, and Doppler. I thought I'd check to see if there were any other cool places as well as the good places to find cool gear and see a good indie rock show.

This is my second trip down here, and if I ever moved out of Ohio, this would be the place I'd probably move to.

Most everyone is probably going to be at AES, but I figured it's worth a shot.

Thanks.

Give my bro Jim Z a shout over at "ZAC" +1 404-603-8040... they have like 1/2 dozen PT suites, a big mix room called "Stonehenge" and a rental company that would give the most jaded gearslut a hardon that could cut glass.

While I love Mike Clark and Paul Diaz to death, and would work in Southern Tracks or Tree any day of the week... ZAC is always my first call when working in Atlanta... I love that joint.

Have a fun time down there... EXCELLENT nudie bars in that town!!!

Go to Bones steakhouse while you're there, trust me.

It's where Piedmont and Peachtree intersect. Easily one of the best in the nation.

The Brandyhouse has 2 great shows lined up this weekend... Green Light Council (Fri), and Moonshine Still (Sat)... http://www.brandyhouse.com/

http://www.atlantavintageguitars.com/ if you are looking for some vintage guitars or amps... I just picked up a great amp for a great deal there...

For a touristy diversion, if you are in the right frame of mind, a trip in the skybox up to the top of Stone Mountain can be a blast.

Bones is awesome! Great Call! Very old fashioned, not loud, relaxing place.

There is also a cool (more loud and modern) pan-asian fusion place called, "Silk." They have Kobe Beef there, and they do it right!!

Also, Buckhead Diner is good for junk food of the highest order. Fuk, I feel like I am on a food forum!

There are many great studios in Atlanta. Also, a nice hot spot for vintage guitars... Have fun! Atlanta is the New York City of the south!

I got a chuckle out of this one...

I used to live 45 minutes north of Atlanta and could never keep the 90 Peachtree streets, ave, blvd, things straight.

Try the Vortex in Little 5 points for the best burger in the south with a killer beer and/or single malt scotch selection. Enter through the skull. Tattooed waitresses, soccer moms, strippers, rockers, bums; Cool spot.

Hit Havana Sandwich Shop on the corner of North Druid Hills and Buford Highway for incredible Cuban sandwiches! Then go down to Fuzzys for a cocktail and some blues; If you're lucky, Francine Reed will be there.

Try Galaxy Music out in Stone Mountain on HWY 78 for cool used gear.

I really miss the ATL... Need to head down for a fix!

Yeah, there are a million peachtree streets.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'm gonna give some places a call in the morning.

My hotel is literally 5 minutes from Tree, and I definately want to check out ZAC as well.

Fatt Matt's Rib Shack

Live Blues every night and the best Ribs in town. It's off Piedmont.

Spondivit's

No music but the best seafood in town. One south of town and one up north.

Enjoy,
Will

We're not heading to AES this year - been busy, but it is kind of slow for a few days here, so you ought to be able to see a good chunk of the place here. Definitely check out ZAC and Patchwerk too - Tree is cool too, and I imagine you probably won't be able to get in Southern Tracks.

I'll show you around Doppler if I'm not tied up (fat chance, probably)
