"The Beatles On Record" History Channel Documentary

Just watched this in HD.

Great documentary on the recording process of their albums from 1963-1969. Lots of rare studio footage, and all the commentary was the band members and George Martin.

Did anyone else catch this?

It's going to replay on Thursday at 10PM on the History Channel... so, set your DVR's Beatles fans.

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

I saw about the last 20 minutes, but I'll be sure to catch the whole thing next time around.

I think this is, actually, a BBC4 production... it might be Channel 4, as they often do joint ventures wish Discovery Channel/History Channel, ie Time Team etc... i've just checked and it's on the BBC Iplayer... sound quality is shite loads better than the Youtube nonsense... You can access the BBC IPlayer if you find one of those aps that hides you IP address and fools it into thinking it's a British one. Not I'd condone people doing such naughty things of course...

It's up for another 5 days on the BBC Iplayer..

You could build a serious pro studio just for the current day value of all those mics in the studio there at the beginning. Makes a man want to cry.

Is there a way I can just hit the pause button on my vcr, and reach in and grab a few of those microphones..... I promise I won't give them back.. acutally I'd take the tape machine, the consoles too... with an emphasis on the period from Revolver to the white album. They were big on the silver face Fenders later on too.. super cool stuff.

drool city for a vintage gear head.

Seems the production was overseen by all the living relatives as well as Paul and Ringo so it was cleaned up of all personal squabbles that permeated that breakup back then. Real nice and tidy, but I still loved it!!

They were a pretty good band.

The comment by Ringo that Rubber Soul and Revolver could have been a double album was spot on. Also, by George Martian that after their first big hit they gained the confidence needed to keep writing.

Watched it twice now - once over Thanksgiving break and then the other nite... short but nice - love the excerpts and audio voice over interviews.

did anyone feel odd that it followed the Linda Kasabian documentary on Manson's killing spree ... man you just can't unlink those (2) cultural phenomenons even in the modern age.. helter skelter i guess.

Yeah interesting how Beatle music inspired satanic murderer Manson so much... wonder why ? Also interesting that "Come Together" was written for drug guru Tim Leary who thought he was the reincarnation of "the beast" Aleistair Crowley and was thinking of running for president. LOVE LOVE LOVE lol

More of George Martin

This has been posted elsewhere, but it is more informative discussion about the Beatles by Sir George.
