| Lives for gear | Great River ME1-NV....... Whats up? I've seen an awfully lot of Great River ME1-NV's for sale on Ebay and here in the classified sections lately. All of the demos that I have heard of these pres were absolutely stellar! I've been seriously contemplating purchasing one. However, all of these for sale have raised my curiosity. As I stated earlier, all the demos I've heard were great and all the shootouts I've listened to, almost always I preferred the Great River to its opponent. I'd like to hear opinions from current and past owners of the ME1-NV. Thanks...... |

| great sounding pre. i wouldn't sell mine ever. pretty versatile too as far as different sounds. a brilliant engineer friend of mine put it this way, he said we are in a second golden age of great audio equipment and the preamps like this GR are gonna be the classics people look back on and seek out for their amazing sound. i think it would be pretty hard to go wrong with one of these. good luck. ;) |

| Maybe they are not the Gearslutz flavour of the week so guys are selling theirs to get the newest thing. I say if you like the sound of them, count your blessings and take advantage of some of the deals that are out there to be had! Get yourself a Great River. |

the pre is so good that people have sold their single channels for the MP2NV stereo version more channels of Great River is addictive.

| I'm as surprised as you that people are selling these things. They're really very good. I agree preamps like the Great River and the Pacifica are really the classic preamps of this era. |

| Lives for gear | Thanks guys! It looks as though this one will be my next pre purchase. Wish I had the cash for the stereo version. Still keep those comments coming. Thanks! |

| I'd only sell mine to get the 2 channel version as well.... although, I've recently been tempted to just buy a second one used and rack them together. I'd jump on a great deal, but the people selling them used are not discounting very heavily. It's always my first call pre-amp for single sources.

| Assuming you upgraded to the stereo version, it would be hands not hand? There are tons of these in use all over the world, I don't know that I would call it a trend and even if it were, it's not because they aren't good, they sound incredible and are more versatile than most. The ME-1NV is simply one of the greatest buys in single channel preamps on earth. War

| Lives for gear | Maybe many folks buy them based on hype, expecting to be overwhelmed by some über-spectacular character, and are disappointed when all they hear is a very good, spectacularly UNspectacular, very reliable preamp. I, for one, am a very happy GR500-NV user.

| It's the emergence of the GAP Pre-73. I believe it's somewhat responsible. Makes other Neve-alikes expendable (and frees up a significant amount of $ in these challenging times). My theory. ![]() |

BINGO that's exactly what i'm thinking about mine. i love it. i think even if there was a four channel version like API3124, it wouldn't be out of the question. i could definitely make great use of it. i record synths, guitars, beatboxes, voiceovers and vocals over it. its not just me, several clients and voice talents made remarks about the "fantastic sound" of their performance when i started using one, without me mentioning anything about getting one. fwiw.

| A couple of posters on a Danish forum found that the GR had brought out sibilants, one mentioned a Soundelux195, the other a SE Gemini II. Anyone here noticed this, or does it just come from revealing the mics own character? I mainly use a Lauten Horizon for my own voice (bright male voice) and am strongly considering the GR. Anyone tried it with the Horizon on male vox?

a good sounding pre /a smooth one like GR especially/ doesnt play such a role in sibilance in my opinion, as sibilance isnt created in there but appears during the performance, so most important part is the mic capturing whats being performed.. Funny thing is that I usually choose Great River over other pres mostly with sibilant vocalists as it helps / controls / tames the sizzle bit. I usually try to find the mic first, then changing a pre.. and being careful with comp on the way in.. | |

| I've been looking at selling it to buy the 2 channel but in the end it doesn't seem that it would really save me anything over just buying another single channel if you look at what they're going for used. They hold their value pretty well and bought new the 2 channel is only $25 less than (2) single channels.

| I SOLD MINE.... and bought a 2NV. Probably my favorite mic pre for all things guitar and synth (and I have 1073, germs, api, etc). I will never sell this one.
