I just went on ebay, I didn't find any used ones. They must have all sold out.

I have a ebay saved search running for about 6 months now and not a single one has shown up yet. This is in the UK tho.

There have been 4 in the past week here in the US. With another currently active. One of them was the 500 series.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking too. And I guess this thread confirmed that I've caved in to the buzz. I need, I neeeed.. Only problem, do I go 500 or not? Choices, choices, choices.

Will resale value on the 500 be as good on the stand alone one, I wonder? I know, I probably won't sell, but I'm just curious?

George....

I have a pair of great rivers and like many posters here they are my first choice when I am looking for a pre with some color (which is most of the time for me)

That said, they have a detailed and crisp high end to them. If you have a siblant singer, I frequently use something different.....at least with my mic collection. In fairness I have had the same issues with a GML and API.

I tend to use a Avedis MA5 or Neve Portico for those type of singers as they are a bit smoother.

Yea, you read my mind.. I'm the singer, and I can be a bit sibilant, but that is not so much the fault of the horizon Btw. the guy with the Soundelux195 mentioned that he went back to using his Brick as it was less sibilant with his voice.

I think I would get the Avedis if it had a DI, but I'd like to give my monosynths a go on it too. The Portico might be a good deal, it has what I need and I imagine its hard to go wrong on a Neve, though I haven't tried it either. I make rather modern electronic rock but do prefer a more warm (and less compressed) tone - not necessarily vintage but just not with too much briteness. Round.

But its hard to be cool when there's a buzz But I hate my sibilantes. Doh!

I do prefer Great River with sibilant vocalists over my Pacifica for the same reason, actually River seems to me nice and polite in high end when not pushed hard, Pacifica has a certain bite in top end which doesnt co-op with some sibilant vocalists much..

You wont be dissapointed with Great Rivers Di, simply awesome, signal is hitting both trannies, great sound with depth and weight.
One of best sounding di´s built in pre in this range.

My sentiments exactly. The one piece of gear I just can't justify selling. It's rock solid, dead quiet and has an amazing tonal palatte - clean to mean and everything in between. It has never failed me on a track. The stuff Dan Kennedy makes is top flight 100% pro in every way.

The selling ? Hey - this is Gearslutz, no-one is ever satified, despite the fact that world-class tools are in the hands of "project studios" at affordable (that's relative) prices.

Does anyone actually use the insert point?

Anyways, I'm getting this thing. If my voice has sibilance problems I'll deal with that later. Maybe just use my SM7 if I silibilibillate too mucho in a specific song.

I got one since 5 years*- the best thing as for pre-amp. And I finally discovered a great chain for my voc. KSM44 –*GR NV1 – MC77 – Culture Vulture*–*my voc thru this sound really thick and in your face!!!
I will buy a second one withing next few months, so I could put stereo sources thru it

I use it on when tracking bass! Hook it up to my API 7600 Comp and Eq! Oh, and I had the 2NV and traded it to pair up my single 7600- but not before securing a 1NV- Snare, bass, and vox get it all day long. APIs get most of the other stuff!
