I just used a REDDI on double bass a couple of weeks ago and it sounded fabulous.

A DI may not be what you need at all. The answer to this question, assuming you really have and want to this sort of signal, depends heavily on what sort of pick up system is on the bass. The most common is piezo, but you'll also see many piezo + electret condenser mic combinations, mic only, magnetic pickups sometimes, and there's a company that makes electrostatic pickups as well as another that is basically a dynamic mic that goes on the top surface of the bass.

If it's a piezo, the most important thing is to have the right input impedance on whatever you're running it into. It needs to be very high, in the megaohms. My piezo pre has 10 megaohms nominal input IIRC. This is not a typical feature for any general purpose pre or DI, but if you have something that says it's designed for acoustic instruments it almost certainly will have a piezo friendly input.

Many bassists carry their own preamps that take care of the impedance conversion, and also supply low voltage phantom or T power to their mic if they use a mini condensor. If that's the situation, you'll probably just take a line out of this and so you wouldn't need a DI at all.

The best sound from an upright bass comes from a regular studio microphone; really the only exception to this is for latin music using an Ampeg Baby bass. Pickups are a compromise intended for live performance. Everybody uses mics in the studio IME.
