other than Waves Vocal Rider...

...OK, I'm rather intrigued by Waves new "Vocal Rider" plugin, but I was wondering if there are any other VST plugins (preferably freeware) that can achieve similar results...I aware of Terry West's "Steady", Blue Cat "PeakMeter", the standalone "Levelator" as well as the ProTools-only original "Wave Rider", but are there any other recommendations for similar software or tricks?...

...Vocal Rider's "sidechain" feature makes it really unique, but would any thing else assist in leveling a vocal track without compression (I'd rather tweak the compression options after leveling)...

...yeah, I'm lazy sometimes, but if there's a good suggestion that might shorten up volume tweaking, I'm game...

Not a plugin, but....

Reaper has a parameter modulation feature that could be used for something like this.

You could modulate (automate) a "trim" plugin with the input volume of a vocal track.

Also you could split the track(by verses/phrases/consonants/vowels/whatever), then normalize all the splits, and finally consolidate the edits.

Just a of couple ideas....

Please and Thank You,
Pfhuck

...I've tried Reaper but just haven't given it enough time to adjust to the interface (Cubase/ProTools are my usual platforms)...but I'm determined to give it a go...thanks!
