Post Production Question

Hey guys,

Just been watching some recording vids on Youtube. Some of the vids were of recording sessions in high end studios. But one thing I noticed is that in some vids, they might be recording the singer as he/she is playing the guitar, which is also being recorded.

How do they go about editing the sound afterwards, seeing how everything is being captured in the mics?

Do they get the sound they want pre recording and then pretty much still with it until, the next take where, they might change the EQ, compression or something?

Thanks

What makes you think they'd need to edit anything?

so what your saying is that, they get the sound before recording?

So later on if they decide whoops there was too much guitar going on, they cannot get rid of it?

thanks

Some times you just gotta commit.

It probably helps when you have done it a few hundred times. (Which leaves me out.)

Yes.
So, if it's a singer/songwriter tune these parts are probably being done last, unless he's playing to a click or something and a band is coming in later. Chances are, the guitar and vocals are the finishing touches to the song, and the engineers have the rest of the track balanced so what he's doing is "already" mixed while tracking it........what you hear is what it is.
Adjustments are being made before the recording, I'm sure they'll listen back while the artist is there and decide if it's a keeper........if not do it again. The sound should be there before the artist leaves.

Commiting to a sound is an enlightening thing, working with idea of "this is it" makes things seem more about NOW and less about LATER.

cheers,
Steelyfan
