trip to the U.K.

my wife and i are traveling to the U.K. at the beginning of november (our first trip) and we're both big music fans...

what are the "must see" music sites when we are there? are there any good studio or factory tours? any venues that are open to see? anything?

our first entire week is in ireland, ending with a couple of days in dublin, where we'll geek out on U2 stuff... (we also plan on going to giant's causeway to see where zeppelin took the "houses of the holy" photo...)

then we'll have a few days in scotland, then a few more days in london.

any help is greatly appreciated!

feel free to PM me if you wish, too, and i'll send you my e-mail to start a more direct line of communication...

thanks!

Hey Guitar Monkey.

Ireland isn't the UK. Be careful with that over there...
As for Dublin: "Whelans" in Wexford Street has some great music. That's one of the best places for 'good craig' and great music.
The "international bar" ( corner of Wicklow Street) has good jazz every so often.
Check out the buskers on Grafton Street.
Temple bar has music, but it's more rock bands. Some of them are pretty shitty, others are good. There are buskers over there too though.
Other than that just walk into any pub and there's a good chance you'll get to hear some decent music.
I used to play the piano and sing in the Viper Room (jazz cafe) on Aston Quay a couple of times. Don't know what they have now. Worth a try, although it's a bit posh over there.
There is a thing called "Rock 'n Stroll". It's some sort of tour that shows you all the relevant spots. Haven't done that one though.
If you have the time go into the country. Some of those pubs are awesome when it comes to trad. Irish music.

Enjoy your trip.

Hans

Across the night we heard the beginning of the evening performance. "Just right" said Rawlins. "Latch on to some of these razors and towels and we'll spruce up a bit".

I see...you're spending a week in the country. Pubs with fiddlers. That's what they have. And accents.
Great stuff!

thanks for the tips

yeah, any way i can avoid the "obnoxious american" stereotype is good. thanks for the tip on terminology. sometimes words are everything.

definitely planning on going by abbey road...

we'll be stopping in local pubs as much as possible.

and my wife is going to find some kind of self-guided U2 hotspots tour from one of the fan sites...

i'm so excited to go...

If you get to Glasgow, check out some venues:
King Tut's - great bands from time to time. Oasis got their break there.
Barrowlands - if you want to see scots go bananas !!! I went to see Supergrass, I got to see 1000 plastic cups filled with beer thrown into the air ..
Nice'nSleazy (on Sauchiehall)- sign on yourself for a half hour gig
