What gauge speaker cable for 20' to guitar amp

I'd like to start bringing my marshall head into the control room and the length of the speaker cord would be about 20'. What gauge cable would you guys recommend?

Thanks

Bigger is always better, just like the Spam email tells me <g>.

I would suggest something like 16 gauge "AC mains extension cord", as sold at Home Despot, etc.

I'm glad you asked this. I have a similar question. I made a bunch of cables for someone and they got their info mixed up and I ended up with about 20' of Canare starquad style speaker cable. Can I use this cable for a head to cab? If so, do I use all 4 or just 2 of the leads?

I use starquad all the time for insturment/xlr cables. When I use starquad I solder the two blue and two white leads together.

I'm no sure if it works for speaker wire though.

Thats what I use all the time too, but I've never worked with their SQ Speaker style.

Go to a welding supply store and price out some copper welding cable. It's massively thick and probably less than some high end brands. I know some very high end facilities who use this - I do also.
