Thread Starter | 2-3 dB noise from patchbay? I bought 2 XLR/XLR patchbays from ebay to have better access to the mic inputs of a TOFT ATB24. I set maximum gain on my API3124. Plugging the mic input cable to the patchbay gives > 2dB more noise compared to the unplugged situation. Can Patchbays be that noisy? Is there a way to improve the setup? Peter |

| A patchbay shouldn't add any noise.....but, often the signal lines in a patchbay are exposed (the shield is stripped to allow connecting of the leads) so the signal is susceptible to outside interference from nearby sources. The patch cables themselves could also be the culprit. I'd look at what is near to the patchbay and see if it should be moved (either the bay or the external gear). Just a thought. |

Thread Starter | Thank you Rick! Yes i think it's because the cables run unshielded for about 2" inside the Patchbay. Maybe i should something better. |
