Green RE20

I just bought an Electro Voice RE20 directly from the store, brand new in box and it is green instead of "fawn beige".
I'm also not exactly sure if the chassis is made from steel or plastic.

I didn't find any info about the new RE20 being green, even the spec sheet that came with it says it's suposed to be fawn beige and made from steel.

Does anybody know why I got a green one?

...you just have to use it on a few sessions to break it in.

sorry, couldn't resist. seriously, that's weird, never heard of it.

"another comparison pic of the older finish compared to that of todays olive/green"
from a thread last spring concerning the sale of many refurbished RE20's. The pics have vanished so I am unable to post them.

No seriously it is green, kindda olive green, army green...
Definitely not beige like it should be.

And like I said I'm not sure if it's made of steel or plastic.

I'll take a pic tonight when I go home.
I searched on google and I only found one guy saying the same thing about his RE20, apparantly he even spoke with EV and they said they don't make green RE20s...

I really wonder wtf it is, is it an error or something, if anybody knows let me know.

Are you saying they're selling refurbished RE20 that are green and that's what I got?

thanks

No, absolutetly not. I'm saying that there have been references to "olive green" Re20's as being the CURRENT production finish. That's all. (I do realize that every ad for one shows the beige finish)
The quote is from a sale by a private party who happened to have several different vintages available with different finishes. I have seen at least 3 (and possibly 4) finishes on them over the years including the olive one.
As to the box saying it is "fawn beige" no big deal, unless you were expecting to match it up with another fawn one, then I'd take it back and see if they can find you one with that finish.

Ok I see, thanks.
Is it possible that it is made from plastic instead of steel?
It looks more plastic to me but that might be the paint that makes it look that way...

As far as whether its metal or plastic...

How much does it weigh?

Most of the weight of an RE-20 is the metal body. (Inside is a relatively light capsule/element and some foam.)

If the body is made of plastic (and unless somebody put a chunk of something heavy in it to fool you), an RE-20 would be lighter than a 57!

It seems to weight the same as what I remember a RE20 should weight.
It's probably just the paint that makes it look more plastic...

Yeah... I just got a new RE 20 and when the guy opened the box, I thought, "What the hell color is THAT?"

I'm grey/green color blind. But my mic was not the usual RE20 grey I remembered. It looks sorta green to me... and I'm guessing it could be what some might call "Fawn Beige".

Seems like it's made of metal to me. YMMV

The paint seems to have changed a few times over the years.

A couple of years ago, I sent one back to EV to be refurbished, and when it came back, the paint job was VERY different.

I thought it made the mic look "cheaper" than it did before I had sent it to them.

...But then again, when I got it back, it actually worked (and sounded good).

...So...

For a while EV made the PL-20, which was absolutely identical to the RE-20 but with that color paint. Looks like either that mic was refurbed with a PL-20 body or they needed to use up some NOS paint...? In any case - don't worry, it's the same mic.

The mic is brand new, the box has never been opened so it can't be refurbed.
Fakiekid's re20 has the same color as mine.

Maybe that's what they call fawn beige... at least I know I'm not alone to have one.

Gives me an idea:

Did you actually LOOK at the band around the base of the microphone?

Does it say "RE-20" or does it say "PL-20"?

I can see in the photos that it says RE20

Electrovoice is wacky, maybe that has something to do with it.

Maybe the one that I used in the past was a "vintage" model, who knows?

Anyway, thanks guys.
