Hollywood Blockbuster Gear (Behringer)

I bet you wish you could have this sweet rig used on James Cameron's new 250 million dollar film!

I went to see "2012" this weekend and there is a part where they are in an underground geology center with racks of equipment everywhere.

I'm not 100% positive, but Im pretty sure that as they were walking past a row of them, one was filled with Behringer gear.....

A few weeks back I was roped into doing some live sound. Got to the venue expecting to see either the obligatory A+H or Yamaha console and it was a Behringer. My stomach sank (seriously), but then when I used it - it was actually OK, turned out fine and did the job. However, the 2-buss led meters died halfway through and the pfl's didn't work either which was a bit of a pain, but not life threatening. The plate & hall reverbs were ****ing hideous though.

In full disclosure, i have to say that i own a Behringer 5 channel DJ mixer. It's noisy and the LED's are busted after a couple of years, but what can you really expect for that low, low price? I am glad I got to mess around with a mixer on my tight budget, but it is definitely for a certain cheap ass market segment (one which I sadly fit into most of the time).

But, the contrast of it's use on such a bloated, technologically-driven Hollywood production was just too funny not to point out!

yeah in that context it is kind funny. I have no beef with certain Behringer products - they make these active DI's that we have a bunch of in the PA workshop - they are OK except that the Pad buttons stick out and it's easy to accidently unpad them... 40dB more gain than you are expecting is a little scary...

They also make a gate thats pretty usable as well, a 'B' rig alturnative to the Drawmer.

I saw this too - it's one of the most expensive movies ever made and BAM! behringer is there for the ride. I guess all that budget went to the special effects rather than the on-set monitoring.

An some of you are under the impression the general public would give two s**ts about the brands of gear in movies?

"It's a piece of technical equipment of some sort".

On the set monitoring has the priorities of "hearing it" and "easy and fast to replace if broken". Behringer fills both with flying colors.

It's a monitor mixer. Who cares what brand it is?

Cheap and easy to replace (note i didnt even say fix) is what it's all about for this application. Carllock hit it right on the head.

They probably have a couple brand new in the box somewhere in one of the trucks, just in case that one breaks. And from that standpoint, what BETTER brand of gear to toss into the dumpster after one faulty connection than a Behringer? It's perfect!

Show me a dubbing stage with a Behringer or Mackie 8-bus and i would be upset, but that's not happening.

ive tried a number of budget minded headphone amps and the powerplay by beringer might be the best of the lot.its no stranger to some highend racks either as i've seen it in very good company.but anything else ive tried by them is utter sheeet.
