Thread Starter | Yes I was checking out the Little Bustard from Thermionic before I posted this preamp thread. Their pres seem cool, lots of control while tracking. Looks like a great summing amp too. |

| I really never complain about the Avalon 737. I can always get a great vocal, it has a great EQ, and the high-pass filter is key for me with vocals and guitars. It is tube, but is still clean, and if you want to push the thing, the High-Gain mode rocks. But I have to admit, I hate the compressor. The other pre I find myself going to a lot lately is the Chandler LTD-1. I know it's supposed to be a "Neve-style" pre, but it sounds awesome and the EQ is absolutely amazing. |

Thread Starter | Tubes I need to get familiar with the VT2 and DW Fearn plus Thermionic Culture tube preamps. I've been around a lot of solid state gear, but Geoff Emerick and Bruce Botnik inspired me with their comments on tube gear in general. I read about Bruce using Martech pres lately, which is clean solid state from what I remember. Seems like thread research is required again for me on tube vs. solid state in the preamp, eq, and compressor areas. Last edited by GrooveMerchant; 23rd November 2009 at 11:44 PM..
