Hardware options for controlling PTLE plug-in parameters?

Having recently fallen for the wonderful sound of URS plugs, but NOT for their very "un-mouse-friendly" interface, I started trying to find ways to control the plug-ins remotely.

I guess I've never attempted this before, being happy to mouse-around, but I could not figure out how to remotely control any plug-in parameters in ProTools LE 6.9.2. Nor could I find any documentation on doing this amont my Digidesign PDF's.

Is it possible to control plug-in parameters using a MIDI device (like the knobs on my Nord Lead 2 - my main controller)? I know how to do this with apps like Reason and Live, but can't for the life of me figure out if this is possible in ProTools. The only manual references are to dedicated Digi hardware like ProControl.

I bought one of those Be*****er BCR jobs, and before I got it running I ended up 'donating' it to one of the guys I used to share a studio space with. But I went through the entire BCR manual and came up with the fact that (I think) it needs to be in Baby HUI mode. But I've been wanting to buy one again except I can't figure out the same question.

The guy who has it now had it working with some plugins, but now I can't remember if it was working with Pro Tools LE or with Nuendo 2.0 since we had both working over there.

Perhaps this one would work with PTLE?

BTW, do you have a scroll wheel on your mouse? I find that since URS gave the GUIs Mouse Wheel functionality, they're much easier to get around. The BFD interface works the same way; I wish all plugins would respond to the mouse wheel.

I use a Microsoft Intellimouse 4.0 with Mac os Tiger with excellent results.

No, I'm a Turbomouse addict although I have been thinking of changing to an ergonomic mouse with scrollwheel as I'm feeling some carpal tunnel issues after long sessions.

Great avatar, by the way!

I would recommend trying something like the Intellimouse. They're not expensive (the non-wireless version, at least.)

So, how about something like that express controller... anyone use that thing?

Controlling plug-ins with the BCF has been covered quite a bit on the DUC. I think the issue is the BCF (and I assume the BCR too) runs in Baby HUI emulation mode with Pro Tools and the Baby HUI didn't support control of plug-ins. Someone emailed the (unmentionable) company and they said it would have to be controlled via midi using another mode (not Baby HUI) but as far as I know no one has figured this out (if it's possible at all). I think the obvious solution is the Command 8 and the fader flip function for plug-in control but that's $1000+. I've got a BCF and it works well for everything else. Plug-in control would be great but I should be spending my money on pre's and microphones first before I burn $1000 on a control surface. If you find any other information please let us know.
