Thread Starter | Master clock connections Hi, I have an Alesis 26io interface and Sonifex RB-ADDA A/D and D/A converter and I have the chance to get a Drawmer M-Clock DMS-1 master clock generator for a really good price. I have no problem hooking up the Sonifex to the Alesis with two S/PDIF cables, but how would I hook the three together so that I'm using the M-Clock as the master clock and the Sonifex as my A/D and D/A converters? The Alesis 26io has 1 S/PDIF i/o and 16 ADAT, the Sonifex RB ADDA has 1 S/PDIF i/o and 1 AES i/o and the M-Clock has multiple S/PDIF ins and outs, AES ins and outs, BNC clock outs and Toslink outs. |

| Gear maniac | The Alesis and Sonifex do not have Word Clock inputs, so you would not use the BNC (The normal way to set up an external master clock is to connect each unit to a BNC output on the clock distribution amp). You can use the AES or SP/DIF inputs and outputs on the M-Clock, using it as a sample rate converter. The sync information is sent over the digital i/o. I am not sure what this will gain vs keeping the Sonifex as the master clock.

slave to s/pdif, the sonifex could be slave to AES. connect both inputs to the S.R.C. outs. of the M-Clock. jump start the SRC outs each time you turn on the drawmer, by connecting & disconecting any s/pdif out to the drawmer m-clock SRC inputs. also connect the Alesis s/pdif out to the M-Clock SRC s/pdif input connected the the Sonifex. or directly to the sonifex s/pdif input. that will give s/pdif clock for the Alesis & Soniflex, with verry low jitter & drift, if you have clean power and shielded cables. if you do not want to jump start the m-clock src inputs, just plug the Alesis to a direct s/pdif out of the M-Clock, but will loss the Alesis s/pdif input, and work as clock input. if clean power, shielded power cables, and Alesis & sonifex spdif inputs are well designed, the M-Clock will improove the sound of the converters, harmonics will sound better, highs will seem to be higher, stereo wider... | |

Thread Starter | Right now I'm not using the Sonifex and have the Alesis slaved to s/pdif to Behringer src2496 converters for ad and da and then the src2496 slaved to the bnc out of the m-clock. Is there a better way to connect the three than Alesis s/pdif out to Behringer s/pdif in and Behringer s/pdif out to Alesis s/pdif in and Behringer bnc in to m-clock bnc out? Also, do you think I'd be better off using the Sonifex src outs with the m-clock or the src2496 with the m-clock through bnc? |
