Help with home setup upgrade

So I'm upgrading my home setup right now. Working with a couple grand. It's mainly used for overdubbs and tracking basic ideas for songs at home. I'd like to do some mixing at home from time to time as well. I am working at a studio right now and don't need to go all out right now as I'm able to use the rooms and gear there as I need it.

My current setup is as follows: PT LE 6.9 on a 2.3 G5 with an 002r and an Apogee mini me for converters. A lunchbox with 2 512c's, 1 550b, 1 525 compressor as well as an RNC. I'm using KRK rp5's for moitoring and the only mics I have right now are an SM7 and an SM58. Waves platinum and factory bundle.

I'm already planning on getting a Mini DAC to go with the Mini me for D/A. Definitely want to get better monitors thinking about some Dynaudio's. A stereo compressor is also on the list as well.

What are your thoughts on where the biggest improvement could be made with a couple g's? Thanks Y'all

I second that. When I got these ATC's, they were the first better than average monitors I'd had at home, and the quality of my work was improved waaay more than when I upgraded mics, preamps, converters, etc. etc.

I don't know the Dynaudios too well, but I know lots of slutz like 'em.

Second in line would be mics. You're definitley more than off to a good start. There's not a bad piece in the bunch, IMO.

I totally love AT 4047's (I think I've said that before. ) They can be had for around $300 if you don't mind second hand mics.

I probably wouldn't suggest buying a large diaphragm condenser... The fact that you are recording with 57's and 58's, leads me to believe that you don't have a vocal booth. Although, if you are in a quiet space (ie, no A/C noise, computer noise, etc.) then that might work....

I think that upgrading your monitor system would be a wise decision. Expect a dozen people to come on and tell you to get either Dynaudios, Adam's, or Genelec's.... But, I think in that price range, the Genelec triple play is a fabulous system for home use.

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

That'd be the truth my friend. Working on getting a closet cleared out and sound proofed for guitars and vocal overdubbs, but for right now am dealing with the occaisonal barking dog and passing car so dynamic mics are the way to go. Luckily I have a soundproofed desk for my computer so I don't have to deal with computer noise.

Whattya slutz think about the Dynaudio BM5A's? I'm gonna see if I can demo a pair of BM5A's and BM6A's to see how big a difference there is between the two. The studio I work at has a pair of BM15a's that are awesome but a little much for my modest home set up. Only Dynaudio's I've heard thus far.
