FL Studio Mixing Separate Patterns

I want to keep pattern one's bass line the same, then I want to duplicate the pattern and make it pattern 2, but I want to drag a guitar mixer into pattern 2, and every time I do this it plays as a song. How can I make pattern 1 and 2 have different sounds? Could it be because it's a mixer?
