DIY Traps

i plan on builing some traps in a few weeks.. i want about 6 in my control room and 2 in my booth. imo my booth sounds a little boxy and i think its b/c all the foam. so i was gonna 1 trap being the artist area and 1 behind the mic and some 3-4inch foam should make it sound a lil better.
i'ma get all the wood from home depot and i know how to go about building the traps but i can't find any oc703 locally...
so i was gonna order this
http://truesoundcontrol.com/products/3MFINS4.html

is that a good price for 3inch? and how many layers does 1 trap need? just 1 at 3inches

That stuff is WAAAY too much. One 2X4 ft X1 INCH 703 shouldn't cost more than $6 each.If you are utilizing panel-absorbers like Ethans, then he recommends just the ONE inch panels encased in a 4 in(depth) thick box for low-freqs,and in a 2 inch box for the mid bass.Try a large fiberglass supplier in a major city.Even "Knauf" is about equivelent to Owens Corning.

drummerboy that link wasn't for one. its a box of 4 2'x4'x 3inches thick.
but after seeing the link david posted i see now how high priced the Auralex 3inch is.
i need 2-3 for mid bass and 2-3 for low bass..
i tried to find a fiberglass supplier here in Atlanta but they wanted me to buy more in bulk..
David thanks for the link

I think I bought a package of 12 sheets of 4 x 6ft for 99$ for the 1".
Go ahead and buy bulk. you'll use the rest. I made some very nifty rolling gobos/traps.

i was gonna go ahead and order 2 sets of this
http://www.insulationworld.com/prodV...?idproduct=631
a pack of 8 for $39 thats cheap.
so i figure i would get 2 packs b/c its more than enough and i can stuff it into my miniFusor's
now where can i find the good fabric? i heard its like $40 for a roll

how do any of you feel about putting some MINERAL WOOL in my vocal booth. i think the foam makes it sound rather boxy...maybe 2-3 traps and some foam vs all foam

Honestly mate, you got a boxy sounding room? Go here and find out why!

It's a great site and it'll explain (or help you find an explanation) for all that stuff.

From what I understand (and this is SEVERELY simplified by my monkey-sized brain) the problem with most of the foam absorbers is that they only attenuate the higher frequencies and therefore you get the lower boxy freqs. still left floating around the room. Kinda like putting egg crates on the wall. You need some broadband absorption to evenly absorb at all freqs.

This is all pub talk but still, go find out for yourself. And I'm sure it'll save you some money in the end!
