Anybody have an AT 4050 and Oktava mk219?

I just got my 4050 in the mail today so i threw it up with my stock mk219 to record some acoustic guitar and v/o clips.I have not done extensive testing on all kinds of sources but so far the mk219 has sounded more open and less thin sounding than the 4050.I also got the mk219 for $30 instead of $350 for the 4050.It makes me wonder how the modified mk219 would sound.Does anyone else have experience using the two side by side?I know they are two different mics but they seem to have a similar character.

you might want to expirament with the polar pattern setting and the 4050 is very sensitive to phase angle coorelation. mic pres and cables can be a factor too as mics can have different characteristics with these variables.

what are you using as a mic pre?

here is an example of guitar at4040 using figure of 8 with a API 8mx2 vocal sm7b on M-Audio firewire 1814 stock mic pre positioned 45 deg. and 35 deg. off axis from center facing artist, spread about 3 ft from each other. sm7 on boom stand, AT4040 on a guitar stand fully extended:

willin.mp3

edit: also a/b flipping the phase of your AT4040

I can tell the mk219 has potential.Plus i got the thing for $30 so it would probably be worth modding. How would you guys describe the mic (joly mod) compared to mid priced condensers (4050, ksm32, etc)??

MK219 for $30?! Amazing. I haven't experienced a Joly Mod myself, but hear nothing but great things from those who have. I sure love my MK219 stock either way though.

The 4050 is a fine mic to have around.
Its dull as hell, but its good to have a mic that isn't hyped for certain things.

I had my stereo pair stolen from me outside of Berklee College of Music. I miss them greatly.
