Euphonix Mix+Transport vs. Control

Euphonix Mix+Transport vs. Control

So what is better in terms of real use?

The MIX and Transport together OR just the Control - in real world use?

There is a $100 difference between these two setups.

I would like to now the same thing ,from someone who has all of them maybe?
I saw on AES(but really hard to decide unless you use them more) the transport and I really like it ,in pair with mix looks really powerful combo ,than just a "control"

Ironically enough I just finished mastering a couple of albums using the MC mix and MC transport in DP7.

-- when you say 'real world', what is it that you mean specifically? All three units are different enough to justify the purchase of all them.

The reason I went with the mix and the transport and not the control is because my needs were specifically to volume balance tracks during mastering, have access to plug-in editing parameters during processing, and a big ass jog wheel to scrub and move me through my project. However..

I'm finding that even though I can create macros with the MC transport via its soft keys -- I would love to purchase the MC control in the near future because of the touch screen that gives you a lot more access to macros and one-button commands. Since I am an RSI sufferer anything I can do to minimize keystrokes and mousing around justifies the price.

Hope this helped,

Michael

'Real World" as in do people really end up using the touch pad of the the Control?

Or is the Mix and Transports all you really would use?

I use the Artist series with a Mac Pro running Logic 9 and the Apogee Symphony system with with 16x converters.

I started off with a Control and a Mix.
For me the fonts on the touch screen are very small and the screen is a little cumbersome, while the unit has great depth of control with the software I found myself missing the extra faders and the channel identifacation screens above them. also the jog wheel on the control is not very good.

I traded in the Control, bought another Mix and a Transport and I'm very happy.
The Transports superior jog wheel and programable buttons work well for me.

Interesting.

It sounds like most people do not use the DEEP features of the Control.

I don't own the Control, but I've spent some time finding my way around one. It didn't seem that the touch screen was that useful. Not because it can't perform useful tasks, but just because it doesn't seem like it can perform them in a work flow-improving manner. Most of the time, it would just be faster to grab the mouse and use that instead (IMO and from my experience). Perhaps I was just a victim of a learning curve, but whenever I'm able to get my MC setup, I'll probably skip the Control, or at least buy it with the plan of returning it unless it dazzles me.

I know what I'm about to say is a sin, but Guitar Center normally has MC Controls and Mixes in stock to mess with if you have the time. Unfortunately, they normally have Cheeto crums and broken knobs from the idiots that walk around breaking gear and poking in tweeter domes. But it might be worth a peek if you live near one.

i think you'll be happy with that--the mix also has the scribble strips, which is a nice feature, especially if you're mixing a large project.

One thing I did not realize was that the mix also has the ability to use the solo and mute buttons as transport buttons ---- after I ordered the transport.

IMO:

2X Mix + 1 Transport. Control unit is cool and I still use it, but if I was stuck on an island...

i'd echo that. Tried 3 mixes and control here. The Control just seems to offer no advantage over a keyboard - I hate menus and multiple button presses. Liked the "Mix" enough to order a few for our edit rooms - but sticking with D-command in mine ...
