MC77 or TLA100?

I love both units and am torn on what to grab as my main vocal compressor for my home studio. Someone convince me on which one to buy.

DO IT

TLA-100A. Do it.

If you love both, you must have used or heard both in action. They are entirely different in sound and function. It's hard to give you a real answer.

exactly, which is why i want everyone to duke it out. if you could only have one as your main vocal compressor, what would you pick, and why?

i use both frequently and 9 times out of 10 i could use either and love it. let's face it, they are both killer compressors, and while you can technically achieve amazing sounds with either, i'm up in the air on the "best" of the 2

NIKE

nike air, just do it bro!!!!!!!!!!!!

if they both work, just flip a coin...

or what i do as an intuitive approach to picking gear, when i can't decide between two pieces, i buy which ever one i can get the best deal on at the moment, say someone has a demo unit for cheap or a "barely used" unit going for $400 less than store cost, than i will buy that unit.

take from me bbooooyyyah, JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Record yourself singing a slower ballad type vocal AND an uptempo rock 'n roll in yo face vocal through both and then choose which one has the edge on at least one of the styles....and if that doesn't work out just pick up a UA La-3a and get to work.

i might do it. i just thought i'd try to see if anyone could battle out their favorite. at work my go-to is the UREI 1176, so I lean more towards the Purple since I typically love that sound and find it works 9 times out of 10. i don't have as much experience with the TLA100 but every vocal i've run through it has sounded awesome as well. my UA 1176 (reissue) does not sound half as good as either of those boxes and it's time to sell it and swap for something with some character.

Do this: Take out your credit card. Pause. Ask yourself: Do I prefer apples or oranges at this very moment, knowing each is a lovely, tasty fruit, neither innately superior to the other. Then, go on-line to your favorite boutique pro-audio merchant and purchase the fruit you desire most at that exact moment.

Sell the reissue 1176 and buy both the TLA-100A and MC-77! No-brainer!
