upgrading from a pro 40, 8in/preamp. I need better converter

I have focusrite pri 40 and really don't like the converter, I love the flexibility, the interface, but the converter really bug me! I' looking for the next step, talk to my local dealer He seem to really love the fireface 800, I've tought of the tc kontak 48 too. But I have top say that I'm looking for new pre too, maybe more choice of flavour so I tought maybe buying two 4 channel mic pre. I'm looking for five fish audio, getting more into DIY. But then you get into the boat of GOOD converter with aurora lynx and it start over 2k for the converter, it is an option... I was lloking with preamp like focusrite isa428 with the AD option, and a lightpipe firewire interface like the m-audio or maybe the presonus. I have work with the AUdient pre and love it so maybe this is another option.
What I want to know is in this ballpark (8 pre with good converter) I would love to see what other option I should consider. I'm using macbook pro with logic. I guess it's hard to get something reaaly good under 2000-2500$?

anybody have an idea for something with better converter? I juste come across rme multiface seem interesting, I could keep my pro40 and use only the preamp, and use the converter of the multiface 2.
