Yeeeeaaaahhh back at 'ya. The varispeed function is really a plus on the BB and it seems hardly anybody mentions it. When I was researching the BB most of the people (including Apogee) were uncertain if it could be used as a viable varispeed and some didn't even know that it was there. Apogee thought that it only went +-10% of selected sample rate which may be the limitation of some systems ability to lock, but I've found it to be useable way beyond that on my PT HD system.
Yeeeeaaaah and a big YeeeHaaaaaww! You bet, cowboy!

I held down the key too long -- the VSO speed just started to speed up and I had to restart the PT rig. I was a lot touch-ier with the button the second time. When I started to notice jitter clicks (at 53?), I backed off. Well, I got it almost to 20% VSO.

Does the AD-16x/DA-16x setup do this?

I get a little confused about this....

If you have some tracks recorded and then want to slow them down ..or pitch them down in order to, say overdub a singer who can't quite make some of the higher notes, I assume you use the Big Ben to vso the daw down...like with the pitch control on a tape recorder. Ok, I get that.

BUT, when you're done overdubbing, and return to the regular sample rate, you now have one track...your new overdub..that is playing back at the wrong sample rate from the rate it was recorded at for the pitch down.

Doesn't that cause problems? Or am I not getting the concept?

No, it's playing at the right sample rate. If you're recording at, say, 44.1 and you want to slow the session down to lay one vocal down, then you change to, say, 42.5 and the whole session slows down. Then you lay down the vocal. Then when you speed everything back up, that single vocal that was recorded at 42.5 is now playing back at 44.1, hence the speed change.

I'm hip. Is it worth getting one for my Rosetta 800 just for the varispeed?

I've used PTLE's half speed record feature for MIDI before.

Yeah, I use that PT shift-space (half speed) thing a lot. I use it for timing edits if I 'm having trouble finding a glitch or deciding which way to go on a tight timing shift.
