Using plug-in effects with AUX sends

I've got a UAD-1 card that I intend to use mostly for effects and was wondering if there was a way to use them with AUX sends on a console.

Sure. Simplest way is set up some tracks in your DAW. Stick some FX on them.

Route the inputs of your interface to these channels. Route the DAW channel outputs to the outputs of your interface.

Board aux send ---> converter/interface -->DAW ---> converter/interface ---> aux returns or channelstrips.

You may have to play around with your DAW's buffer settings to get the latency as low as possible.

I find this especially works best with setting up a reverb effects aux, so that everything will get the same reverb in the mix for consistency. Plus it helps tame the wetness of the reverb.

Because of the added latency this'll only work for time-based effects, not for eg. parallel compressing.

I use a combination of real auxing on the desk and some ITB-auxing. All FX are spit out to a stereo channel on the desk. EQing and stuff of the individual effects happens itb.
