Lynx aurora 8/FW - stops working after 10 minutes

Hi,

I have got sound "out" from my Aurora 8/FW everytime I reinstall it. But after, lets say 10 minutes (everytime) the remote control in my computer say it is "Aurora 16" and not "Aurora 8" and all the settings in the remote control changes. Everytime this happens, a "chose midi source" window is showing before the remote control appears.

I have tried to hold in the "Sync source" button and plugged in the firewire to the computer so it would find the source. It does find it and I get sound in my monitors, but then after about 10 minutes the same thing happens. --> The Midi window is showing when I try to enter "Remote control" in my computer, when I finnaly enter the remote all the settings has changed and it says it is "Aurora 16" and not "Aurora 8".

So weird.

I wonder- is 8/FW beta? Someone told me it was, but he wasn't sure.

(I'm using this with a SONY Vaio 21fw laptop)

Thanx//Sandy

I had a Lynx Aurora 8 with FW for a while. I ended up returning it. I enjoyed the sound a lot, but I had some similar issues. I don't remember the exact details now, but I remember it dropping the most whenever I switched any audio settings, like playing back on a different adapter, I forget the other circumstances of lost contact. Often when the remote control program lost contact and got confused the aurora would still be working. I also remember that the remote control program would go to 100% utilization if I turned off the Aurora. Usually a hard on off would let me find it again. Also, I remember even when it played nice there would be very brief dropouts, no matter the buffer I used. Even if it worked perfectly, I was never a fan of Lynx mixer compared to the EMU PatchMix I was used to (not that PatchMix is all that great either).

I ended up returning it, I tried out one with an ADAT card instead so I could just use it with my current interface. It worked just fine as advertised. That's gone now too, I'll never understand why the more money you pay for something, the worse the usability (I hate multichannel snakes, etc). I've gone to the EMU+Lavry Black, and I'm either going to save up for a Prism Orpheus or just wait until Texas Instruments / Analog Devices /etc. makes an economy one chip solution that outperforms everything.

i don't think the aurora FW is the most robust version of the interface
(think most people including lynx would agree)
but one set up correctly it is pretty reliable
you should mail paul at Lynx support as he knows all there is to know and has never not been helping in fixing any Lynx troubles i have had
i do not doubt he will be able to talk you through whatever is happening
i think the ARC software always shows aurora 16 options instead of 8 so that isn't a problem as such
try a reset to factory defaults and if you don't have the latest firmware then update to that as well

Lynx Aurora 16 w/ PCI works awesome here.

Have you tried installing new drivers?

What version of OS are you running?

Do you have any other firewire audio units plugged in at the same time?

Thanx for the advice. Do you have Pauls email? Can't find it anywere.
When it comes to the remote control window- it only shows "Aurora 16" when it does not work, and "Aurora 8" when it does work.

We're running XP SP3 and the PCI has been flawless. I've heard nightmare stories though. Email time......
