The way it works is that you load an individual program from the cards into the R880 internal memory.
This makes sysex dumps difficult if not impossible (will check manual to confirm this)
Card transfer is easiest way to go.

Yes, just checked manual.
sysex dump will only transfer program change maps, not internal algorithm parameters.

Even making copies of cards is difficult because sometimes there are more programs on the card than you can fit in the R-880 memory at once. So you have to copy them in batches. A real bitch.

However, I believe I am going to be selling my R-880 with the Massenburg, Lee Quintana, and at least 1 other card. It's been a long time since I powered it up for any serious use and I believe it's a 240v unit. I will not be separating the cards from the unit, but if someone is looking for an R-880, this is a good unit to get.

There's a "COPY CARD" function. Not sure what page, but it's in the manual. Piece of cake. Done it lots of times.

EDIT: it's on page 38:

Press Function 5 ("next") to get from the main patch paged to the "Backup" page. Once there, press Function 3 to select "Backup" then follow the instructions.
