Alison Krauss' engineer--Gary Paczosa

I think Alison Krauss' albums just sound amazing and I wonder if anybody has any info on Mr Paczosa's working practices/gear/etc. He is the best engineer for acoustic music I have come across and I'm always inspired by his work.

Any of you work with him or have any juicy details?!

Cheers, W

Big fan here ...

Every time I see a video concert of Alison I am amazed ... each performance is literally equal to the quality of a perfect studio take ... time after time after time !!!

I'll be 95% of it is simply the talent she possesses as a vocalist.

jls.

a month ago i picked up her Alison Krauss - a Hundred Miles Or More dvd which was shot in a studio with all the musicians in one room and a guest appearance by james taylor. fantastic musicianship and top top notch engineering!

That's a cool article about GP in UA's Webzine. I came across a link to a Mix Magazine article a ways back. I'll try to post it later.

Are those Mackie's in the UA picture? I know he's got some super mics. He uses a pair of KM53's I believe on a lot of his acoustic instruments and is fairly into stereo techniques and AB positions.

Anyone worked with him?

Alison has asked me to work on her new record with Union Station , Ive been out to Nashville to do a "test run " to make sure I get on with the band and doing vocals with her etc , she wanted a change and I'm extremely honoured that she asked me to work wit her on this record as it's a big change for her and the band (and me !!), so far its worked out absolutely fantastic !!! and I cant wait to do more recording in the new year . It was a total suprise that she asked me and an honour as she is amazing and so is her band .
I've changed the recording gear up a lot from her usual recording and the band and Alison are very happy (thank God !!) I'll let u know how it goes !!
Peace

Cheers Mike--that's brillliant! I'd also love to know what kinds of stuff you're using with them. What kind of changes were they looking for in their sound, if you're at liberty to say? That's pretty exciting and it must have felt great that they chose you. No wonder with your track record. How did it all come about?

Best, W

Amazing... congrats! I'm very interested in hearing your take on what AKUS sounds like.

How about keeping a blog or something on the recording process?

I'm afraid that now you must be destroyed........No....Green with envy I am. It would be a dream to work with them. I also wish I could have worked with Nickle Creek as well when they were together.........
