Hi there, Been a lurker for the last couple of months but never posted... this will be my first... ![]() After through some research I'm thinking of getting these pieces but I just want some opinion on what to get first. Aside from room treatment (I'm thinking of building an isolation box for my gutiar amp), what would you suggest in terms of priority? My current setup: Interface: m-audio fasttrack pro (usb1) Mics: SM57, AT4050 mic. Preamp: Presonus Studio Channel, also pres in the m-audio interface. The m-audio interface has SPDIF, so maybe I can run a better converter through it. But I'm thinking of upgrading to the RME Fireface UC first since I read the 2 pres and converters in the unit are pretty decent (would be huge upgrade to what I have right now anyway). I'm only recording guitars. Probable eventual setup: Interface: RME Fireface UC: $1300 retail (I don't have firewire in my computer). The unit's new so I can't get it off ebay. Preamp: Avalon AD2022 dual mic pre: $3000 retail, or LA-610 (or something else you can suggest me) Converters: Maybe something by Apogee... Maybe an EQ or compressor far in the future but I would think that's not that high in priority. Thanks!! Aaeea |

I guess how would you compare the Fireface UC to the V-Studio 700 for instance? Would you recommend getting a cheaper usb2 interface like the M-Audio fasttrack Ultra and spend the money on a decent converter? |

I forgot to point out that I'm running a PC, so interfaces like Apogee Duet aren't available for me.... If anyone can suggest what to upgrade first, I'd really appreciate it. The Fireface UC isn't really a cheap piece of gear, but I'd rather upgrade to something of decent enough quality that I don't have to upgrade in another 2-3 years... I'm also not sure whether to wait for any USB3 devices to come out... |
