Recording guitar/bass - miked amp and DI signal .. Y-cable?

To simultaneously record send the electric guitar signal an amp (to be miked) and a DI on my pre.. can I just get an Y cable ?

Or do I need to drop real dough on an instrument distribution box..

Would like to keep "options" open when recording electric guitar and bass.

Thanks.

I usually just use a pedal... Most tuner pedals have two outs, one that's always on, and another that mutes while tuning. Works great for me! I'm sure a custom cable would work fine, but you probably have a pedal kicking around that'll work!

Peaceee!

Use a regular DI box (preferably something good, I use radial). Plug the guitar directly into that, send the balanced output (xlr) to the input of your choice, and take the "thru" and send that to the guitarists pedalboard/amp.

Just like that. For $100 you can probably find an adequate DI.

This is how we do it as well. We use a Radial JDI passive direct box and send the THRU jack to the amp with the balanced XLR feeding the input on our mixer.

I recommend getting a clearer sounding DI (one without any knobs, etc) because the cleaner the signal, the more options you have for REAMPing.

The original poster wants to use the DI on a pre. I have the same problem.

The best DI for bass that I've ever heard is the instrument input on the LA-610. DI for bass is one of the things the LA-610 really excels at.

The problem is that when I want to use an amp as well I need to split the signal before going into the LA-610. The Y-cable solution that was mentioned does not sound good to me. There is clearly a degradation of the signal. Is it just my cable? Are there any better solutions?

I haven't tried using both outputs on a tuner pedal. Will do, but my intuition tells me there will still be a degradation of the signal. Am I wrong?

I usually end up using a Radial JDI, thru to amp, XLR to pre. Sounds great but I miss the even greater sounding DI of the LA-610 for bass.

A Y cable could mess up the the draw from your pickups. Try an ABY box (radial), or, the suggestion to use a guitar pedal is also a very good one.

Thanks! I'm gonna pick up the the Radial ABY for my solution.. as I don't really see the need to get a DI box (my Pacifica DI sounds pretty nice i think

Btw, Hello from Victoria I am here too... small world! Cheers, Kelly
