A little career advice please?

A little background:

Recently graduated with a Bachelor in Audio Production, live in the St. Louis area, and currently freelance, play live gigs with band, and do recording on the side out of my home studio. To pay bills, I'm a Supervisor at a Help Desk listening to people complain all day long, full time.

So, freelancing and playing are all good, but I didn't spend $50,000 on a Bachelor to do that on the side, or to be in the job I'm in. I'm looking for a production job closer to my field. I've searched sites such as Job Search Made Simple | Simply Hired UK, craigslist, etc...and I can find plenty of production jobs out there it seems...however, none in St. Louis. The closest is Chicago.

What are your thoughts on packing up and moving to get going on an audio production career? Find a job before moving? Move then find a job? Any tips would be great. I'm open to the type of work, as long as it is related to my field more than answering emails at a desk.

p.s....I'm not asking how to make it, or step by step advice. I know what I gotta do, and it is all up to the decisions I decide to go with. I'm asking that if you were considering moving your life elsewhere to pursue a career in production, how would you go about doing it and any advice about that? Like I said, I have found PLENTY of full time and part time production jobs out there, I know they exist...just not where I'm at. I also have a wife and dog! No kids so I wanna make these decisions before it gets too late!!!
