| Gear maniac | Event Studio Precision 8 issue
Hello slutz, Been a while since my last post but here goes. I made my first mistake of buying a pair of Studio Precision 8's off ebay 2 weeks ago. They are in great shape and I got them for a nice price however....After the 3rd day I fired one up and I got some crazy intermittent white noise coming through the woofer and tweeter. Then after about 10 minutes of this it went away. (This occurs without even running signal into the monitor and with the XLR even disconnected) However, every time I power this monitor on now I get this crazy static/white noise and have been pretty careful about playing the monitors loudly afterwards. About an hour ago I had a friend take a look at it and we pop the back off and notice that one of the ground wires had been disconnected. We reconnect, plug in and same thing crazy white noise. So now I guess I'm going to stop using the monitor all together and hunt down a repair shop nearby. I was just curious as to if anyone else has had a similar problem with these. I'm not sure if the person I bought these from was the original owner, but these monitors are in near mint condition. Any feedback/suggestions would be great. Thanks guys, -Chris |

i have a pair of asp8s and they had the same problem, though in my case, the problem was not the monitors, but a ground loop. long story short, i purchased the Ebtech hum x, and the white noise is gone.

This EXACT thing happened to one of mine. Tap the amplifier with the handle of a screwdriver. Seriously. Let me know if it goes away. For me, once the speaker was on for a little while, it went away, (with the tapping) but man what a nasty noise. It always came back after being off and cooling down. ![]() It's got to be something loose or burned up on the amplifier, but I couldn't find it. ![]() Regards, |

i've had the exact same issue happen to my sp8 monitors as well. I took it to get repaired and was told there was a loose solder that needed re soldering and that was it. That was about 18 months ago and there hasn't been an issue since. From what ive heard it's a common problem with the sp8's that's luckily easily (cheap) to repair. Hopefully that's your issue as well |

The noise goes away after the monitor is warmed up, but it is still making me nuts. I'm afraid it is going to damage the speakers or amp eventually. Thanks so much for the replies. Should I just contact Event and send it out?

I never had that but I do get my speaker's woofers out of the blue start rumbling. Very weird. Also, I get my right speaker always sounding like it going to blow any min and it's a new woofer. Also, the little 80 hz cut off button always pops halfway. I've tried everything to keep it in, tape, a match as preffered by an Event tech support :( I loved the sound a these speakers when I first got them and I still do but, been having small problems with them constantly and it's making me want to sell them. Can the button pop out? Any suggestions? Sorry, don't mean to take over thread. Everytime I see a Thread about these speakers I never see these issues. Thanx

I would talk to their support staff. They had recently moved their service department, and I think they were working to be more responsive. I wished I had info with me, but I'm traveling. The amplifiers were on backorder last time I checked, but I'm hoping that they got that worked out. call Event. Regards, Don |

I just called Event and spoke with Allen, who was great! He is shipping me a new amp out for my SP8 tomorrow! It should be a breeze to install because there is no soldering, everything has connectors attached. If you bring your monitors to a shop they are most likely ordering from Event and tacking on labor charges. He even gave me a nice discount. Anyone who is having issues with these monitors should definitely call them up.

Ring or e-mail event about your problem and i'm sure they'll help as i assume they have dealt with this slight problem before with this speaker. good luck with it cuz with the right size room and a decent effort with acoustic treatment, these speakers are amazing. | |

I just replaced my amp and the monitor is dead quite and sounds great! I am very happy with the customer service at Event and the ease of this replacement. It took me about 20-30 min. I got lucky there was no soldering and even without any it is kinda tricky to connect everything given the amount of slack provided in the cabling.
