Event Opals. what does one put them on??!!

i'm inquiring for a friend here...

these things are pretty hefty - about 25kg and almost a square foot in terms of its vertical footprint.

does anyone have any idea of what stands one can use for it that are over a Metre high and can actually support these things (while not costing a fortune!)?

Hey man,

We had a similar problem with our Urei 809s. I just bought a couple of these: On-Stage Stands EB9760B | Sweetwater.com and mounted them on tripod stands. It worked great, but the screws that come with the brackets are pretty weak so I went up to the hardware store and for a $1.87 investment bought some heavy wood screws. Problem solved.

I have a pair of opals and they come with these rubber mounts that are not very user friendly for them to sit on. By this I mean you have no real ability to angle them up or down depending on your mix position.

Whatever stands you buy make sure you get a pair of aurelex mo pads or similar as they help the Opal sit a lot more stable.

Re stands I personally had a pair of genelec stands for my 8040's that I had modified with 2 heavy duty plastic plates. These plates screwed onto the stands and my opals now sit snugly on them. I dont recommend going down that path if you can get a ready made stand with a decent top plate that fits the Opal.

Recommend you checking the Opal dimensions to make sure they fit though before you buy the stands.
I had to make my speaker stand plates 28 cm x 29 cm for the Opals to have room to sit on. They are massive speakers.

Cheers

I bought some pretty standard stands from a local music store, filled them with sand, and threw some Primacoustic Recoil Stabilizers on top. Golden!
