I think the real situation here is that Pete has got a whole lot goin' on....
and it'll take a bit of time to ramp up production of all the cool new stuff he's designed..the guy's like a gear designing machine..
Designing is one thing, producing en masse is a whole 'nuther ball o wax.
i'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

I was really intersted in these, but now I see they dont have the St.Ives option, no iron select at all, no stepped gain option, and have seen three for sale in the past week. What's up with that?

three for sale this week

Well as the guy selling two of those three I LOVE the GAMA and sold mine to afford my Equinox which arrives in 10 days hopefully.

Also it has no Iron option but that sounds like sour grapes since no othe rmic pre I know of even has two output options (much less Silver, Steel and Discrete like the GAMA).

These are honestly AMAZING pre's and I cannot wait to have enough money to keep everything I bought. Also the other guy who listed a GAMA this week said he was buying a GAMA8.

Anyway there's a lot of action on these BUT in my case anyway it is just to afford even MORE shadow Hills pre's.

i would not let that concern you, ( short of really wanting the iron ) these are great pre's they sound very good.

Got to finally use mine with a really excellent bass player on a film score. We used the Steel transformer. The sound was extremely warm and sat perfectly in the mix. Fretless and also on acoustic bass guitar (miked with an 89). Fantastic!

Most the sellers are upgrading to a GAMA 8 or Equinox. They are not selling because they don't like them, they are selling to get more of them in one big black beautiful box. The guys I bought my 2 monos off of are going the extra slutty mile and getting more in one package.

Has anyone used a gama with an SM7 on vocals? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Cheers.

My pair should arrive anyday now. My first trial will be using them as overhead pres next weekend and maybe on some guitars. I'll try to post a file or two when we are done tracking.

Gain Knob

Just received a pair of Gammas yesterday, but haven't racked them up yet. Really glad to have them in my arsenal, and hoping the Discrete setting is a neutral and uncolored as many claim. That's one quality lacking among my highly-colored preamps and something I need. I already know I will love Nickel and Steel.

One thing bugged me a little: the gain knob is not actually flush with the face of the unit, which is not visible in the straight-on photos. In fact, the flat bottom of the knob is about a centimeter from the face of the unit. I find this a little strange and disconcerting--like it's a push/pull knob that's been left out.

Is there any way to shove that in? I wish it were flush with the face. I see no advantage in having it stick out like that. Maybe just so the transformer switch doesn't get in the way? Still, I don't like seeing the stem of the switch. Oh well, I'm not sending it back for that!
