Thread Starter | Yorkville YSS1 sub for pairing to YSM1P or stereo subs with lower frequency and size? So, I have a pair of Yorkville YSM1P's and need to get a subwoofer(s) for a medium-sized room, maybe 12' x 20', that will be adequately treated. Should I just get the matching YSS1 12" subwoofer that only rates down to 35 Hz, and could I get away with a pair of YSS1's in this space, or is a 12" subwoofer too big for this room, regardless? Or should I get a cheaper, well-reviewed pair of 8" subwoofers from Fostex or Yamaha that rates down to 25Hz? Or, perhaps, should I get an HSU STF-1 or STF-2 or a pair of either? Alas, might the YSS1 subwoofer, made to mate with these YSM1P's, serve better than a smaller pair with documented lower-frequencies? Yours kindly, Jaekob |

There's no way an 8" 110 W subwoofer gives accurate results to 35 Hz. It's contrary to the laws of science. Which is fine because there's not much that's useful in music below 45 Hz, and certainly not something you'll be able to listen to in a 20' by 12' room. | |

I would stick with the Yorkville. You may be pleasantly surprised. 20x12xwhat height? have you done any acoustical treatment? adding a sub may cause you more grief than satisfaction if you haven't. go over to the acoustics and construction forum and do some learnin' up. (Roxul and superchunks will be your friends soon enough, I predict)

I like the combo of a single yss1 with the ysm1's, but depending how you hook the sub up you either get the LF cut-off to the mains even when the sub is switched off, or the LF from the sub and the mains, so you have to be aware of what's happening there....the footswitch out is handy tho....
