Micing up the far away drum room, Can I do it?

Micing up the far away drum room, Can I do it? : Well I know I can do it but I have a question as to how the long cable runs might/might not affect the sound. I have a snake that runs 40 feet into my tracking rom with 24 inputs. I have another snake that is 50 feet long with 12 inputs. I want to run this snake up stairs to my living room with the high vaulted ceilings, wide open space, and hardwood floors. I would have to plug the 12 ins box into the 24 ins box to make this happen. Thus I am looking at around a 100 foot cable run to the drum mics. Is this going to work??? What types of problems will I be facing sending 48V, ect?

My goal is to get a snake specificaly from my patch bay to that room and send it through the walls ect... but I don't have the funds at the moment to make this happen. So until then I am hoping to get by with what I've got.

As long as all the wiring inside the snakes is intact it'll work. Why wouldn't it? It's just XLR to XLR. Sure, it would be marginally "better" to have one snake without a connection in the middle of it, but it'll pass signal.

All you need to make a record is a mic, some tape and maybe some bad reverb...

longer lines

I had to do about an 80' run with my ultra crap snake + mic cables
and was able to make quality recordings
of vocals/acoustic gtr/accordion/voice.

Because of the run, I
was all freaked out it was
going to sound shi*,
and in the end my end sounded fine.
However, the players weren't able to
get any decent takes that night....

Like always, do the best you can with what you have
and don't be afraid to suck.

p.s. Couldn't one also place external mic pre's up by the drums upstairs
and run lines to the recorder? don't some folks do this in the studio?
