| After reading the thread on D2B. I 've been thinking about it for my next purchase. At the meantime, I was thinking of a Prism ADA-8 for my MIX++ system. ( I currently owned 1 AD8k I/O, Hedd-192.......) The Prism ADA-8 would give expandability--96k for navtive DAW, future HD support, and 16 channels of AD or DA on the lastest firmware. But for around the same amount of money, I could buy a used- AD8k, a D2B and may be one more decent outboard. Sonically, which option would provide more improvement? Since you are one of the few D2B users, hope you can provide some insights or suggestions on the subject. THANX |

I would surely go for the above option if i have the cash But Say if I still had to work in Mix+++ system in 44.1k. The option is more like: 1. Prism with my currently already owned a AD8k and Hedd-192, with no D2B nor outboard (but I do have a Lexicon 960L), I doubt the ADA-8 would work as a standalone AD or DA in 16 channels. 2. Buy an extra AD8k, D2B and some serious analog compressor. TRY AGAIN. Rainchild

| "I doubt the ADA-8 would work as a standalone AD or DA in 16 channels." Explain that please... I don't quite understand it Prism has three potential modes with PT - 8 in 8 out , 16 in and 16 out Also - do you have the digital AES i/o for the Lexicon? Am I correct in assuming that 16 ins at once is ideal for you? Or is that overkill? Do you track bands or 'overdub' mono or stereo analog program to midi created rythem tracks? Gimmi some idea of what you work on. ![]() |

Sorry for the late reply, as i am living in a different time zone. In fact, I am not too clear about the 3 modes that Prism can operate; as the info on their site was not too clear (as least since last time I looked). But I think I 've seen a press on a mag saying that the leatest firmware put change the ADA-8 to a standalone AD or DA --16 channels----I am not too sure, may be you would know better? My Lexicon 960 is a AES only version. Let's assume that I would have 2 8-channels I/Os, I would be using 3 to 4 pair of the AES for 960 in. The 960 would sum its output in 1 stereo pair. With the 960 taking up some output, I realize I may not be using the total 16channels of the D2B. But I could at least break-out to >8 tracks analog. My normal recording session would mainly midi backing with session Guitars, bass, BG vox, Ld vox--a typical pop&RnB situation. I have been using large studio, but the budget of some recent recording project had forced me to finish many of my job by Pro-tool. I am one of those who dislike the sound of all PT- internal mixes. That's why I wanted to know more about the D2B. I am currently building my own project studio. As You probably would know, with all the acoustic, AC, electric, wiring.....etc. My hard-earned-cash is kind of like flushing down to drainage.........hoping to make some really careful & beneficial purchasing decicion. Don't know if you had hired any ADA-8. If you had, you might be able to gimme a sonic comparsion of two setups that I mention in my previous post.. THANX [color=skyblue]
